Reflection 1 - Technology

Technology plays a major part of our lives, whether we want to admit it or not, it does.  We use it daily at work, school, and even at home.  Technology is at our fingertips.  For example, most of us, if not all of us always have our cell phone in our pocket, handbag, or hand.

In the article, "Summon the Comfy Chairs," it talks about the Walt Disney Mary Poppins Movie and how the furniture moves at just the snap of Mary's fingers.  The article then later presents the idea of things like this eventually becoming a part of our reality.  Besides having moving furniture at the snap of one's fingers sounds, I cannot imagine them having a personality!  That's a little creepy.  What if you command you bed to make itself but it refuses to do so because of their personality?

In "Teaching Robots Right From Wrong," they talk about how Japan, Europe, and the United States of America are building robots to be able to care for the elderly and disabled.  Now with that they do have to teach them how to react to different scenarios, which in my opinion would be very difficult to do.  It does not matter how much you prepare them for all sorts f different scenarios when not everyone will react the same.

From "The Best Inventions of 2015," a prosthesis that's built to play has to be one of my favorites.  I think it a great idea, like he article says, for children.  Some adults that need a prosthetic arm or leg have already lived a little longer and have experienced many things.  However, a child that needs a prosthetic arm or leg has more than likely not done everything that they would like to do.  A prosthesis that is built to play is to a great advantage for these children that way they can still do what they love and try new experiences.

As teachers to be, I believe that we are all to go into a classroom with an open mind when it comes to technology.  Most children have been raised in homes that are not technology free.  At a point and time we will all incorporate some sort of technology in our teaching; although, we must not always depend on technology because you never know when it can fail you.

  1. I enjoyed reading your blog. I like how you pinpointed completely different inventions and gave reasoning to why you enjoyed reading about the ideas. You are absolutely right about how we should not rely solely on technology because it can fail.

    1. Teachers definitely need to keep an open mind when it comes to technology. Especially now that we highly depend on it. Most kids are so use to having technology at home that some learn better when using technology in their classrooms.

  2. Technology is part of our lives and it brings out many conveniences to facilitate learning and communication; however, we also need to ponder how it affects human interactions as we just focus on "e" tools and how it can be efficient when we apply the "fancy" apps or software in education!

Articles & Khan Academy Reflection

For my first article I read, Equivalency of Paper Versus Tablet Computer Survey Data .  This article emphasizes on the differences between surveys on paper and surveys online, on a tablet.  The most common online surveys are through email.  The downside to email surveys is that most people ignore them.  However, what if the person just does not understand what the survey is asking and decides to just not do it?  Well, we are not sure what exactly happened because it is via email and it is to the person’s discretion whether he/she decides to do it or not.              On the campus of a midwestern university, 292 college undergraduates were invited to participate in the survey taking, but only 258 accepted.  About 133 students took the survey on paper and the other 125 students took the survey on a tablet.  At the end of this experiment, I believe it is safe to say that it is most reliable t...
